Construction of Brunswick Square began in 1824 on land that was sparsely developed. Over the next few years, further development took place and the area known as Brunswick Town was created.
By 1830 the Brunswick Commissioners were established to administer the new streets, charged with levying rates and borrowing money to pay for establishing and maintaining the services that were needed. Nick Tyson will describe how Brunswick Town’s administrative infrastructure grew along with the houses. This a joint event by Hove Civic Society and the Regency Society. Admission is free and open to all. No need to book.
